Cedar Roofed Studio

This beautiful cedar roofed studio was custom designed and built for a local customer. Designed to create an attractive and useful space in a small garden without causing an intrusive impact on the local area or other residences.

Before construction the area was prepared, cleared and levelled to create a suitable foundation.

The 3.6m x 3.6m structure was built using a strong 50mm x 75mm timber framework, all joints invisibly sealed against draughts, weather and natural movement with a polyurethane expanding tape. This was lined with Tyvex reflex membrane to eliminate any dampness and insulated using 50mm Celotex cavity insulation panels. The exterior walls were cladded in 25mm shiplap, which was given two preliminary coats of Sadolin Supadec in Sargasso Sea before being fitted.  The interior was cladded in a redwood tongue and groove timber, including cover strips to hide all fixings. The interior floor is 18mm pressure treated Wisa spruce plyboard, while the interior ceiling was finished with 12mm Far Eastern hardwood plyboard.

This Studio also incorporates a redwood decked veranda with step. The fully insulated and lined roof houses a Velux roof window and has been tiled in a Cedar roof shingles, this natural and traditional roofing material is a highly durable and extremely attractive, as it naturally settles into a range of colours.

The casement windows and rebated glazed doors were also handbuilt in our workshop, all fitted with 6-4-6 double glazing panels separated with georgian glazing bars. We used black antique furniture, casement stays and a 5 lever sash motice lock with rebate kit. All windows and doors are draught excluded. The doorway was finished with sapele threshold with weather bar.

The exterior fixing points have been filled and sanded before the final coat of paint was applied. This studio was painted using Sadolin Supadec, In ‘Burlesque’ and ‘Sargasso Sea’ and black guttering was fitted to the front and rear.

 

This garden studio was also fitted with full electrics. We can offer full electrics to any of our timber buildings using a certified qualified electrician.
