With many shed companies on the market it can be hard to know if you are getting a good deal or not. A cheaper shed may not always be the right option as corners may have been cut in order to keep costs down. Here are our top 5 tips to look out for when purchasing a shed

  1. Check to ensure the timber has been pressure treated. This will prolong the life of your shed and help protect it from rot and decay.
  2. Ensure it has a suitable floor, some shed manufacturers use a chipboard for the floor. They are prone to absorbing water and will disintegrate over time. Chipboard is just compressed sawdust mixed with glue and compacted into sheet material. If used just ensure it is an OSB 3 chipboard as this is moisture resistant.
  3. Ensure you shed has been screwed together and not nailed. Screws will hold the timber and  cladding together better. Timber is a natural material which is prone to warping and shrinking in the different weathers. When this happens the nails become dislodged and no longer hold the timbers in place.
  4. If you choose to have Onduline roofing sheets on the building ALWAYS ensure they are supported by a sheet material. If they are not, over a very short time the sheets will sag in the middle leaving a ineffective and ugly looking roof
  5. Glass – ensure a toughened or laminated glass is used if there are windows. Some shed manufacturers use horticultural glass and this can be very unsafe. It can shatter on impact where as laminated or toughened glass will be harder to break.
